80 YEAR ANNIVERSARY EXHIBITION: SATURDAY 8th to SUNDAY 9th November - Open from 11.00am to 4.00pm each day

ASTON TIRROLD AND ASTON UPTHORPE VILLAGE HALL

The Astons History Project are holding an exhibition to mark 80 years since the end of WW2. Soldier banners and village stories about child evacuees, land girls, photos and reflections. The Redline Home Guard are a historical reenactment group dedicated to showcasing the important role of the British Home Guard during WW2 and they will be joining us. 

TALKS

In addition to our exhibition, we are holding two talks on the evening of Friday 7th November at the hall. Doors open at 6.30pm.

THE ROAD TO PEACE IS PAVED WITH HEADSTONES: Starts at 7:00pm. We are grateful that Dick Richards, a volunteer for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, will be giving a talk to our villages about his research of a Wellington Bomber crash that happened in the Parish of Aston Tirrold in1944. Come and hear about his incredible research.

DECOYS: DECEIVING THE BOMBER DURING THESECOND WORLD WAR: Starts at 8:00pm. We are thrilledto host one of the country’s leading Archaeologists and SecondWorld War Defence Specialists, Chris Kolonko, to our villages where he will be talking to us about WW2 Decoy sites, how andwhy they were built and used during the war and with special interest in how the Astons’ site and control room were used.
