CORONA VIRUS WEEKLY UPDATE 1

CORONA VIRUS UPDATE

Fantastic Community Response

It is as times like these that we remember how special this community is. In response to the call for volunteers, 47 people have come forward to offer to help in a variety of ways. If you are able to volunteer to regularly phone someone who lives alone to check they are ok, run errands, collect shopping or provide some sort of virtual entertainment, please let us know via the above contact details.

Coordinating the Response

The central Operations Team is coordinating the villages’ response to Covid-19 (Jane Imbush, Justin Keeble and Joanna Hart from the PC, and Simon Patterson and Peter Butcher) with volunteers  supporting the different workstreams:

  • Ensuring all households are supported: There is a team working to make sure that every villager is aware of the response team, knows how to contact it and for those living alone, that there is someone to check in with them regularly.
  • Astons Errands: Dave at the Fat Frog is working behind the scenes to set up a village shop offering staples and take away meals. We hope this will be up and running early next week. For those self isolating and unable to collect, we will arrange delivery for you. If you need other errands, like medicine collection or somebody to organise emergency repairs, get in touch and we will do our best. Please note that due to the risk of infection to you, no volunteer will go into your house.
  • Life @ Astons: Ensuring that our mental health is supported through this difficult time is as essential as our physical well being. We will all have to adapt and existing village  groups are encouraged to see how they can carry on activities online (Astons Online can provide advice regarding this). If you have ideas or would be willing to lead a new online group, then do get in touch via above details. There is a WhatsApp group to share ideas for those now home-schooling, email covid19astons@gmail.com if you would like to be added.
  • Comms team: This is the first of the formal communications. Let us know what you need and how often. Thanks to the eNews, Facebook, Astons Online and website team for supporting this effort.

Do Get In Touch

Please get in touch if you need anything, even if it is just a friendly ear to share your concerns. We can’t make the situation better, but we can try to make it bearable. We will keep going until restrictions are fully lifted, so don’t worry if you don’t need us now, just remember the details for when you do need us. There are many people that want to help, so don’t think your issue is too small or not important enough. Always go through the official email / phone number for help as people may try and take advantage of this system, none of the response team will be offended if you double check who they are.

Key Workers

If you are a key worker (ie you are still going into work), do let us know if you need any extra support to help you and your family. We want to make it easier for you to carry on your essential work which will be benefiting all of us, so please do ask.
