Astons ultrafast broadband

As we shared in the February edition of Astons village news, we are working with Openreach to bring ultrafast fibre to the premises (FTTP) broadband to the Astons. However, due to some changes in funding by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), our application was moved to a lower priority category. This has meant that our timeline has been pushed back, and the Openreach portal – the mechanism by which villagers can apply for vouchers which will fund the project – has not yet opened to Astons residents.

The good news is that our application is still very much in the pipeline and we are expecting the portal to open by the end of June. At this point, we will need as many households in the village as possible to apply for vouchers via the portal. In essence, you are committing to signing up to full-fibre broadband contract with the Internet Service Provider of your choice, provided that they offer full-fibre services (which most large ISPs do).  More information about this can be found on our website,

We’ve been reassured by Openreach that despite these delays, the delivery of full-fibre broadband should still be possible within the first 4-6 months of 2022. This is because Openreach will now be installing the fibre cabling themselves rather than outsourcing to external contractors. Of course this depends on our application being accepted – based on sufficient numbers of households applying for vouchers.
