Churches in the Astons

St.Michael's | All Saints | united reformed church

Welcome to our Churches

There are three Churches in the Villages: St Michael's, Aston Tirrold; All Saints, Aston Upthorpe and the United Reformed Church in Aston Tirrold.

Whether you are planning to visit one of our villages or already live in the area, you are very welcome in all of our churches: come for a service, or just enjoy a look round.
The Astons Church of England Parish, Aston Tirrold with Aston Upthorpe is part of the Churn Benefice. Our Rector is Jason St John Nicole who is based at The Churn Benefice office in Blewbury. The link to this site gives contact details for the Rector and the Benefice Office.

The first Sunday of the month the 9am Parish Eucharist will be held at All Saints’ Church, Aston Upthorpe. All other services, including the Family Service, held on the last Sunday of the month, will be held at St Michaels.

Evensong will be held at All Saints’ on special occasions, no longer on a fixed Sunday.

Further details will appear on the events page.

The times of services for the next week are displayed on notice boards outside the churches. See Services within the Churn Benefice for the next week for all services within the Churn Benefice.

The Parochial Church Council (PCC)

The PCC meets about four times a year. It consists of elected members from the two villages*. Their remit is to keep the fabric of our churches going and give support to the Rector for Church Services. Our work to maintain the fabric of the Churches is aided by the generous donations from villagers for which we are very thankful, as we receive no financial assistance otherwise. The PCC is concerned with the Church of England Churches, St Michael's and All Saints' and the Astons Burial Ground in the Croft. Liaison is maintained with the United Reformed Church and combined services are held from time to time.

Members of the PCC organise rosters of volunteers to read the lessons and act as sidesmen; to clean the Churches; to arrange flowers in the Churches; to mow the grass and to provide refreshments after services. Any volunteers to share these activities are always welcomed! Contact

We are always looking for donations to assist in the upkeep of our beautiful churches and these will be gratefully received.
*The PCC members are the two Churchwardens, Christopher Hawker and Tim Lake, Biddy Hawker(secretary to the PCC), George Curtis, Joanna Hart, Claire Picken, Vivien Biggs, Ian Wishart and Amanda le Conte. The treasurer is Mike Hill, a non-voting member.

Re: Church services, activities and events during the Covid 19 lockdown

This coming Sunday is Palm Sunday and with all churches still closed, there will be a Churn Benefice online service at 10.30am which all are cordially invited to log into and participate in. Details are as follows:

CHURN BENEFICE SUNDAY SERVICE - 5 April 2020 - 10:30am

Palm Sunday

All are welcome to join the Churn Benefice's online service.

To join in, follow the instructions below.

We hope to see you there!

Crosses and Greenery.  During the 10.30am Palm Sunday service, there will be an opportunity to waive a cross or piece of greenery, reminding us of the crowds who waived their palms as Jesus entered into Jerusalem. You might like to make a cross out of paper before the service, so it's ready to waive at the appointed time!
